If you want to publish one AI-assisted article every day, the cheapest writing tool is not always the cheapest workflow.
A $10 AI writer can look like a great deal. But if every article needs extra SEO research, rewriting, images, fact-checking and another paid tool, the real monthly cost becomes much higher.
I wanted this page to answer a more useful question: How much does it realistically cost to create about 30 useful articles per month with AI?
I am not comparing only advertised word limits. I am also looking at article limits, SEO features, editing needs, workflow quality and what we saw while testing these tools.
Quick answer: how much should you budget?
For a solo creator, a realistic AI content software budget can start below $20 per month, but a serious SEO workflow can easily reach $70–$150+ per month.
At the cheap end, a tool such as Rytr can handle a lot of basic generation for very little money. The trade-off is that you still need to do more planning, SEO work and editing yourself.
At the other end, platforms such as Frase, Scalenut, and Writesonic bundle much more research and optimization into the workflow, but their useful higher-volume plans can cost much more.
What I Count as a “Daily Article”
I do not think a 300-word AI draft should count as a finished blog article.
For this comparison, I use a more practical workload:
30 articles
About one article every day for one month.
30,000–45,000 words
Approximately 1,000–1,500 words per article.
Human review
Facts, structure, examples and weak AI wording still need checking.
This could fit an affiliate site, small business blog, niche website, freelancer workflow or a content creator building topical coverage.
If you publish only four articles per month, you probably do not need the same plan. If you manage several client websites, you may need much more.
AI Writing Cost Comparison for 30 Articles per Month
Pricing changes often, so I checked the current public pricing pages again before updating this guide. I also separate cheap raw generation from SEO-focused article workflows.
| Tool | Relevant current pricing | Can it fit ~30 articles? | Best for | Our cost/value score |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rytr | Free + Unlimited + Premium plans. Unlimited is shown from about $7.50/mo depending on billing option. | Yes for raw generation, but not a full SEO workflow. | Cheap drafts, short content, simple writing | 9.1/10 |
| Jasper | Pro: $69/mo month-to-month. Annual equivalent is lower. | Good generation capacity, but some advanced workflows sit in higher/business usage models. | Brand voice, marketing teams, multi-format content | 8.2/10 |
| Frase | Starter: $49/mo for 10 articles. Professional: $129/mo for 40 articles. | Professional fits 30/month. | SEO + GEO research and optimization | 8.8/10 |
| Scalenut | Starter: $59/mo for 5 articles. Plus: $89/mo for 30 articles. | Plus matches 30/month almost exactly. | SEO/GEO content production at scale | 9.0/10 |
| Simplified | AI Writer currently starts around $20/mo. | Potentially useful, but I would not choose it only for daily long-form production. | Writing + visuals + social publishing | 7.6/10 |
| Writesonic | Current public plan structure shows article allowances around 15 / 25 / 50 depending on tier. | A 30-article workflow pushes you above the lower tiers. | SEO + AI search visibility + content | 7.5/10 for cost |
Prices are in USD and can change. Annual billing, temporary promotions, trials, add-ons and regional taxes can change the final amount. Always check the vendor pricing page before subscribing.
1. Rytr — Cheapest Practical Option for Raw Writing
Rytr cost/value rating
BEST LOW-COST OPTIONMy take
9.1/10Very strong value if your main goal is generating text cheaply and you are happy to do SEO and final editing elsewhere.
Rytr is one of the easiest tools to understand. It does not try to become a huge SEO platform. That is both its weakness and its advantage.
If you need ideas, paragraphs, short posts, product descriptions, email copy or quick drafts, you can get a lot for a very small monthly cost.
But cheap generation is not the same as a complete content system. For a daily SEO blog, you may still need keyword research, SERP research, internal links, images and manual optimization.
Very low entry cost, simple interface and unlimited generation on the relevant paid plan.
I would not make Rytr my only tool for a large SEO content strategy.
2. Jasper — More Expensive, but You Are Paying for the Workflow
Jasper cost/value rating
BEST FOR BRAND WORKFLOWSJasper Pro is currently $69 per month when paid monthly. That is far above Rytr.
The question is whether you are paying only for words. In Jasper’s case, the answer is no.
During our tests we used Brand Voice, task agents, blog workflows, content repurposing, image generation, web search and SEO/AEO/GEO tools.
Overall cost/value
8.2/10Better value for a marketer who will use Brand Voice, agents and repurposing than for someone who only wants 30 basic drafts.
You create marketing content often, care about brand consistency and want several content workflows in one platform.
You only need a cheap first draft and do not use the brand, agent or team features.
3. Frase — Strong Value if SEO Is Part of the Job
Frase cost/value rating
BEST FOR CONTENT OPTIMIZATIONFrase changed a lot compared with the older version of this article.
The current Starter plan is $49 per month when paid month-to-month and includes 10 articles per month. That is not enough for our 30-article test.
The Professional plan is $129 per month and includes 40 articles, making it the more realistic choice for one article per day.
In return, you get much more than text generation. During our tests, Frase researched SERPs, created briefs, analyzed topic coverage, checked structure, measured SEO/GEO/E-E-A-T and suggested improvements.
Overall cost/value
8.8/10Expensive compared with a basic AI writer, but much easier to justify if you would otherwise pay separately for SEO research and optimization.
4. Scalenut — One of the Best Matches for Exactly 30 SEO Articles
Scalenut cost/value rating
BEST MATCH FOR THIS TESTScalenut has a useful detail for this exact comparison.
Its current Plus plan is listed at $89 per month on monthly billing and includes 30 ready-to-rank GEO articles per month.
In other words, its plan limit lines up almost exactly with our one-article-per-day scenario.
It also includes optimization, keyword clustering, audits and other SEO/GEO features.
Overall cost/value
9.0/10One of the strongest choices here if the goal is specifically 30 search-focused articles instead of only raw text generation.
Bloggers, SEO sites and small teams that want a structured search-content workflow.
Someone who writes only a few captions or short texts each month. You would be paying for many features you do not need.
5. Simplified — Cheap if You Need More Than Writing
Simplified cost/value rating
BEST ALL-IN-ONE CREATOR VALUESimplified is difficult to compare directly with Rytr or Frase because writing is only one part of the platform.
Its AI Writer is currently promoted from around $20 per month.
You also get access to a much larger creator ecosystem: graphics, images, video, social content, scheduling, Brand Brain, Riley and automation workflows.
That makes $20 attractive for a creator who would otherwise pay for separate writing, design and social tools.
But our recent long-form test also found an important problem. The Instant Blog workflow generated articles with headings but missing paragraph content. One result contained only 161 words, and we reproduced the missing-section problem again.
Overall cost/value
7.6/10Great value as a multi-purpose creator platform. Less convincing if your only goal is dependable daily blog generation.
6. Writesonic — Powerful, but 30 Articles Can Push the Cost Up Fast
Writesonic cost/value rating
SEO + AI SEARCH PLATFORMWritesonic is another example of why old AI writing price comparisons become outdated so quickly.
It is no longer useful to think of it only as “a cheap AI writer with lots of words.” The platform now combines content, SEO, site auditing and AI search visibility.
Current public pricing information shows article allowances around 15, 25 and 50 articles per month across the relevant tiers.
That means a 30-article target can push you beyond the lower plans.
Cost score
7.5/10Makes more sense when you also want its SEO and AI search tools. Harder to justify if you only want cheap article drafts.
What Would I Actually Pay for 30 Articles?
Here is the part that matters more than a list of subscription prices.
Budget workflow
$8–$30Cheap AI writer + free/manual SEO research + your own editing.
Balanced workflow
$60–$100Better AI workflow with SEO features and less tool switching.
Advanced workflow
$120+Research, optimization, content briefs, monitoring, AI visibility and team features.
The Biggest Cost Is Often Not the Subscription
Software pricing is easy to compare because it gives us a number.
Your time is harder to see.
Imagine two tools:
Tool A
$60/moArticle takes 25 minutes to research, generate and edit.
Tool B
$10/moArticle takes 60 minutes because you need more research, rewriting and formatting.
Tool B looks cheaper. But across 30 articles, it can cost you another 17.5 hours of work.
That is why I do not like comparisons based only on subscription price.
Cost per Article: A Better Number to Watch
Let us ignore your time for a moment and look only at software.
| Example workflow | Monthly software cost | 30 articles | Software cost/article |
|---|---|---|---|
| Low-cost writer | $10 | 30 | $0.33 |
| Jasper Pro | $69 | 30 | $2.30 |
| Scalenut Plus | $89 | 30 | $2.97 |
| Frase Professional | $129 | 30 | $4.30 |
Those numbers still do not tell us which content is best. They simply show what the software subscription costs when spread over 30 articles.
Now Add Your Time
This is where the calculation changes.
Suppose you spend 30 minutes per article.
30 articles × 30 minutes = 15 hours/month
If you value your time at only $15/hour:
$225 of your timeNow a $69 subscription is not your biggest cost anymore.
And 30 minutes is not guaranteed.
A difficult review, tutorial or research article can take much longer because you may need screenshots, testing, checking claims, adding links and formatting.
Do You Really Need Five AI Tools?
Usually, no.
A common beginner mistake is subscribing to several tools at the same time:
AI writer → $20
SEO tool → $50
Humanizer → $15
Grammar tool → $20
Image tool → $20
Social tool → $15
$140/monthThat can still be reasonable for a business. But it is often unnecessary for a beginner.
Before adding another subscription, ask:
What problem does this tool solve?
Not “what features does it have?” What actual problem in your workflow disappears?
Do I already have this feature somewhere else?
Several platforms now combine writing, SEO, image creation, editing and social publishing.
Will it save enough time to cover the cost?
A $50 tool that saves five hours can be better value than a $10 tool that creates more work.
Do You Need to Pay for an AI Humanizer?
I would not automatically add one to the budget.
We have tested many humanizers, including free options and humanizers inside larger platforms.
Some can change AI detector scores dramatically. But a lower detector score does not automatically make the article better.
If the real problem is robotic writing, I would first improve the prompt, remove filler, add personal examples, change repetitive sentence patterns and edit the text manually.
Which Budget Makes Sense for You?
Beginner blogger
$0–$30Start cheap. Learn prompting, editing and search intent before paying for a large stack.
Good starting point: Rytr, a general AI assistant or a basic all-in-one tool.
Freelancer
$30–$100Paying more can make sense because time saved on each client has direct financial value.
Brand Voice, SEO research and reusable workflows become more important.
SEO site / small team
$80–$150+Research, optimization and content management may be worth more than the cheapest possible generation.
Frase or Scalenut becomes much easier to justify here.
My 2026 Cost & Value Ranking
| Rank | Tool | Score | Why | Who should choose it? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Rytr | 9.1/10 | Extremely low cost for a lot of generation. | Beginners and budget-focused writers who can do SEO manually. |
| 2 | Scalenut | 9.0/10 | The $89 Plus plan matches a 30-article SEO workflow unusually well. | Bloggers, SEO sites and content teams. |
| 3 | Frase | 8.8/10 | More expensive, but strong research and optimization can replace several smaller tools. | SEO-focused creators and content teams. |
| 4 | Jasper | 8.2/10 | Strong brand and marketing workflow, but overkill for cheap draft generation. | Marketers, brands and freelancers with repeat client work. |
| 5 | Simplified | 7.6/10 | Excellent feature-per-dollar value, but our Instant Blog tests hurt its long-form score. | Creators who also need social, design and visual content. |
| 6 | Writesonic | 7.5/10 cost score | Powerful platform, but current higher-volume article plans are much more expensive than the old cheap-writer positioning. | Businesses that also need SEO and AI visibility features. |
Cheapest Tool vs Best Value: They Are Not the Same
If I only wanted the lowest subscription bill, I would choose a cheap unlimited writer.
If I wanted 30 articles that need research, keyword planning and optimization, I would look much more closely at Frase or Scalenut.
If I needed blog posts, visuals, social posts and scheduling in the same workspace, Simplified becomes more interesting even though I did not like our Instant Blog result.
And if brand control and repeat marketing workflows matter more than the lowest possible monthly cost, Jasper becomes much easier to justify.
Should You Pay Annually to Save Money?
Annual billing usually gives a lower effective monthly price.
But I would not buy a year immediately just because the discount looks good.
For example, Jasper currently lists Pro at $69 month-to-month and $59 per month when billed annually. Frase also offers a lower annual equivalent.
Annual plans make more sense after you already know that the tool fits your workflow.
How to Cut Your AI Content Cost Without Producing Worse Content
Use one main writing platform
Do not keep three paid AI writers because you might use them someday.
Cancel overlapping subscriptions
Check whether your main platform already includes rewriting, images, plagiarism checks, SEO or social publishing.
Create reusable prompts
A better prompt reduces the number of rewrites and regenerations.
Use templates for repeated work
Reviews, tutorials, product descriptions and comparisons can use consistent structures without becoming identical.
Do not generate content you do not need
Thirty weak pages are not automatically better than ten strong pages.
Measure editing time
If one cheap tool constantly gives you more cleanup work, its real cost is higher than the subscription suggests.
Cheap AI Content Still Needs SEO
One important mistake in cost calculations is assuming:
That is not how I would build a site.
You still need to think about search intent, structure, internal links, screenshots, topic coverage, accuracy and whether the page gives readers something better than a generic AI response.

Use this when you want a broader comparison across AI platforms.
Compare AI Content Tool PricesWho Should Not Pay for a High-End AI Writing Tool Yet?
I would stay with a cheap or free option if:
- You publish only a few articles per month.
- You are still learning basic prompting.
- You do not know your content niche yet.
- You are not using the SEO features you are paying for.
- You have not built a repeatable editing workflow.
- You keep changing tools every week.
More software will not fix an unclear content strategy.
When Paying More Actually Makes Sense
A more expensive tool can be the better financial decision when:
- You manage client content.
- You publish at high volume.
- You need SEO research every week.
- You need consistent Brand Voice.
- You manage several team members.
- You need WordPress publishing or structured workflows.
- You save several hours each month by keeping work in one platform.
My Verdict: What Would I Choose?
For the cheapest possible workflow, Rytr wins on raw cost. It is hard to beat if you mainly need text generation.
For exactly 30 search-focused articles per month, Scalenut currently has the cleanest plan match because its Plus plan is built around 30 article generations.
For deeper content optimization, Frase is one of my strongest choices, although its 2026 pricing is much higher than the old version of this article suggested.
Jasper makes more sense for brands and marketers than for someone who only wants cheap blog drafts.
Simplified gives you a lot for the money, especially if you need graphics and social media too. But after our repeated Instant Blog problems, I would not currently make it my first choice for 30 dependable long-form articles.
The most important lesson is simple: do not choose an AI writing tool only by its monthly price.
Look at how much editing it creates, what extra tools it replaces, and how much time it saves.
FAQ: AI Writing Costs in 2026
How much does an AI writing tool cost per month?
Basic tools can cost under $10 per month, while SEO and marketing platforms can cost $50–$150 or much more. The useful price depends on your content volume and workflow.
What is the cheapest AI writer for a lot of content?
Rytr remains one of the strongest low-cost options in our comparison. Its Unlimited plan is much cheaper than full SEO content platforms.
How much does it cost to make 30 AI articles per month?
Software alone can range from under $20 to well above $100. A realistic total becomes higher when you include editing time, SEO research, images and other tools.
Is Jasper worth $69 per month?
It can be if you use Brand Voice, agents, marketing workflows and repurposing. It is much harder to justify if you only need simple drafts.
Is Frase cheaper than Scalenut?
Not for this specific 30-article comparison. Frase Starter includes only 10 articles, so a 30-article workflow needs a higher plan. Scalenut Plus currently includes 30 articles per month.
Do free AI writing tools work for daily blogging?
They can help with ideas and small drafts, but free limits are often too restrictive for 30 long articles. They also usually provide fewer SEO and workflow features.
Should I pay for AI writing annually?
Only after testing the tool. Annual plans are usually cheaper per month, but you lose flexibility if the tool does not fit your workflow.
Does cheaper AI content mean lower quality?
Not automatically. A cheap tool can create a useful draft. The difference is often how much research, editing and optimization you need to do yourself.
Do I need an AI humanizer as another subscription?
Usually not at the beginning. First improve your prompts and edit the article manually. A humanizer can be useful in some workflows, but it should not replace real editing.
Compare before you pay
